Thursday Post...

So... sorry about the rant yesterday. Somebody (aka me) didn't get much sleep the night before. Hopefully I'm a little less cranky today. Lack of sleep plus ridiculous fuss over what is by all accounts that I care about a really dumb film did not equal a happy Filmi Girl.

No word yet on new films this weekend at the theater but I probably won't go see the new Prakash Jha but if there is a new (or newish) Tamil film, I'll try to get out.

NOW! Let's put aside stupid rumors of Katbir marriage--like Rishi would ever okay this and hit the news!

Nandita Das talks about the dark side of fair and lovely.

Where does South Asia’s obsession with fair skin come from?

There are many theories for this. But the one that seems most plausible is that for centuries the upper class has been fair, and the working class dark. The former works indoors and has had the best nutrition while the latter toils in the sun and is underprivileged in many ways. Mixed marriages led to greater diversity. But instead of celebrating this diversity, we, as a nation, have become obsessed with being fair skinned, as that seemingly represents power, wealth, and privilege.

Temptations Reloaded in Australia and New Zealand hooks Madhuri.

We can't be cranky because KAJOL IS COMING BACK!

Wow. Ajay is really throwing Sajid Khan under the bus for Himmatwala.

Have an adorable on-set report from the UK sets of what is probably 1920: The 10th Sequel of Whatever We Can'T Think Of A New Title.

Here's the guy who owns the property where they shot:

“I’ve spoken to the location manager and, apparently, a lot of Indian films are made in England.”

I don't know why I find that so cute. I just imagine somebody out of like The Vicar of Dibley or something saying it.

Irrfan Khan vs Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

And probably Irrfan Khan vs Naseeruddin Shah.

And rumors I do care about--blind item about a director dating a "dusky actress." A female director dating a dusky actress. Hmmm....

Why does everything about Besharam feel like we're time traveling back to 2003? With Ranbir as a slightly less manic SRK?

Yay, Kajol! Not all that optimistic about Ajay's taste in scripts, but if he's not appearing in it, maybe it will actually be ABOUT her character at least.

From the same slideshow as the thing about the female director: The fact that Aditya didn't have enough musical sense to grab Badtameez Dil when he heard explains alot about the soundtracks of modern YRF projects, actually.

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.

xoxo Filmi Girl
