Thursday News... and RIP to Dara Singh

The sad news for today... Dara Singh has passed away. I'll always remember him fondly as Bebo's grandfather in Jab We Met. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

Salman Khan paid tribute to him before the launch of the first song of Ek Tha Tiger.

"He (Dara Singh) was the most amazing person to work with. I know his children really well. As a person, he was the most incredible. It is a huge loss to us and god bless his soul," Salman said.

* If you missed Eega last weekend, check your local theater again because it's getting released on more screens in the US. My theater tends to get Tamil films, so we're getting... wait for it... BILLA 2!!!!!!!!!!!!(!!!!!!!!!!)

P.S. I am excite.

* Oprah's India Exploitation Extravaganza will be airing soon - July 20 and 21.

* Big Bollywood studios move South.

Also, with non-availability of the big bankable Bollywood stars, the producers have started looking for greener pastures. For instance, UTV Motion Pictures has been actively investing in Tamil movies by not just distributing, but also producing them. And an encouraging response has made them expand further. In May this year, UTV Motion Pictures made their debut in Malayalam movies with 'Grandmaster'. They wanted to enter the market with a bang, so it was only logical to rope in Mohanlal, Malayalam cinema's biggest superstar.

* This "Bollywood producer" arrested for IPL betting probably knows a thing or two about black money.

* The nuisance case against Dibakar Banerjee for Bharat Mata Ki Jay is still in progress. A case has officially been filed against the director and Emraan Hashmi.

* I know we've all been harping on this but Saif really does look SO SLEAZY with these two young 20-something girls. Check out the picture that is with this interview with Homi/promotional piece on Cockfail.

The story has come from Imtiaz Ali who seems to be poles apart from whatever we have seen of Homi. “He is, but Imtiaz wanted me to take his story and make the scenes, the journey my own. He said the moment you take it I will let it go. And you know most love stories are less about beginning or end and more about the journey, the moments. It is in these moments that you will see my touch, my fondness for little quirks and details,” says Homi who developed the screenplay with Imtiaz’s brother Sajid Ali.

Oh, that's right the story came from foreign-model loving Imtiaz Ali. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised that it's about a 40-something dude hooking up with two 20-something girls. Speaking of... there is this story out today.

* Over at Firstpost, Gautam Chintamani asks who killed the Bollywood romance.

This week yet another film, Cocktail, tries to be same, same but different. Set in London, Cocktail is the story of a man (Saif Ali Khan) who moves in with his girlfriend (Deepika Padukone) and her roommate (Diana Penty) and life isn’t the same again. Directed by Homi Adajania the film pitches itself as “a beautifully balanced friendship between three people” where life’s changes don’t change their intentions for each other and their friendship only grows stronger. While the film promises to be different it looks a lot like a segment of Imran Khan-Deepika Padukone’s 2010 disaster called Break Ke Baad mixed with a dash of an alternate Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and a shot of Saif Ali Khan’s own Love Aaj Kal (2009). Hopefully this isn’t the recipe that concocted this Cocktail.

* Will we see Sonakshi Sinha opposite Saif Ali Khan? That's the rumor being spread around today.

* Aamir talks about his new look for Dhoom Fuck Yeah 3. I'm really hoping Vicky decides to reference the infamous "Dhoom 5" sequence...

New song trailer for Ek Tha Tiger!!!! Kat's still sporting her waxy, immobile forehead look but... I'm still digging this.

(And confidential to Katrina: Girl, with those abs, nobody looking at your forehead. Enough with the botox, ya.)

Do you suppose that Mashallah is the song Salman refused to go back to Morocco to shoot?

Sal said...

FG< I have a feeling you won't agree with me on this one, but while Katrina looks absolutely stunning (the smoky eyes and belly dancer-esque costumes REALLY suit her), girl cannot dance for nuts. I kept imagining Ash in this.

Dhoom 3: Fuck Yeah would just be the perfect title for that film. :DD

Filmi Girl said...

@Mo That would make a lot of sense! And the picturization does have that backlotty feel to it...

@Sal LOL! I don't NOT agree... ;D Aish would rocked this, no doubt. But I don't think Kat is bad per se but she's certainly no dancing genius.

@Veracious I just keep humming the tune of "America Fuck Yeah" but inserting Dhoom 3. "Dhoo~ooo~oom threeee~~~~ *guitar wail* Dhooom 3.... FUCK YEAH. Coming again to save the mother fucking day yeah."

Was the "SO SLEAZY" text in the bit on Saif meant to inks back to the article about the IPL betting arrest?

Filmi Girl said...

@Stuart Ah!! NO! Hold on, let me find the article again - the picture made him look like such a creeper.

This was it!

Stuart Martin said...

I should say "thanks" for the link, but what I really feel like saying is "Ewww! Why did I even want to see that?!"

Filmi Girl said...

Right? He looks like such a dirty old man - well, if Ajay and Sanjay need a third for Rascals 2...
