Monday Gossip!! Welcome to June!

I'm ba~aaaaack!! Did you miss me? Florida was wonderful and the wedding was really nice. It took place in an orange grove - appropriate!

Since I spent most of my time off drinking fruity drinks at the beach bar I have no idea what I missed so let's dive back in together! I'll go put my bathing suit back on; you pour the bahama mamas! I'm sure I'll be playing catch up all week so let's hit it!

* ROWDY RATHORE takes a great opening! I'm so happy for Akshay and the team! I really, really enjoyed this one. To the point that I definitely want to see it again next weekend. I hope this encourages more slobs v. snobs films to balance out the steady diet of NRI rom-coms we've been forcefed.

* Uh-oh. Ranbir has been busted for smoking in public.

* It seems Satyamev Jayate is still generating news. The Hindustan Times speculates on lower than expected ratings.

For Star India, Satyamev Jayate is strategically important. “We believe that as leaders of broadcasting, we have got to be the chief innovators constantly working towards renewing TV’s social contract with society. Satyamev Jayate is one of the biggest leaps that we have taken in many years. With it, we are trying to establish a very eclectic, contemporary definition of what entertainment content can be,” said Shankar.

If the television audience watching in real time is lower what about the online audience? Isn't this the argument made in American television all the time? I'm sure if you factor in audiences not watching in real time and watching online, it will be much larger.

Also, Aamir is being criticized for criticizing the medical profession. I liked the take on the controversy in DNA.

Why did they not make a noise earlier? Medical malpractices in India hardly make breaking news. The issue has been reported in the Indian media for years. One doctor who appeared on national television to discuss the issue had a curious argument on that one. He said Aamir’s show had a greater impact. So Aamir’s sin would have been lesser if no one watched his programme or if the viewers fell asleep halfway.

* Asin for Khiladi 786? I HOPE SO! She had a great jodi with Akshay in Housefull 2.

* Arjun Kapoor for the Ishq remake?

* Aamir Khan to remake Prakash Raaj's Abhiyum Naanum?

* Hema Malini doesn't like item songs but what are you going to do?

* Apparently I missed some fuss over Sonam calling Kat shameless.

Kapoor was quoted saying as, “I would like to give Katrina a bouquet of flowers.” When asked why, Sonam said: “I don’t know how she does that. You need a certain kind of commitment and a certain kind of shamelessness to do certain things. You get that may be with stardom or with confidence in your talent or with who you are as a person. I need to develop that before I do films like that.”

To be fair, one does need a certain amount of shamelessness to get ahead in the entertainment industry. Nobody casts the modest girl who undersells her talents...

* Speaking of which - the Jism 2 release date has been pushed up to July.

* Bebo and Emraan Hashmi?! IS IT ON? * Shahrukh Khan showed up to an event wearing jeans that were strategically torn to reveal a bandage underneath. I'll let Bollywood Life take it from here:

All bandaged up, we wondered what made King Khan opt for tattered pants and put his wound on display. Is this the superstar’s way of gaining sympathy from his fans or a desperate attempt to create a cool style statement?

* Shirish Kunder won't be editing Shahrukh's film with Farah Khan. And that's too bad because Shirish is one of (if not THE) best editor working in Bollywood today.

* AND Shahrukh is alleged to be skipping IIFA this year in order to avoid Sallu.

* I still don't want Sholay in 3D. Really? You want us to sit and watch a post-converted film with those stupid glasses on for 3+ HOURS?! Why not just clean up the print and release a special DVD edition with interviews, documentaries, and commentary tracks?

* Saifeena are finally getting married on October 16th. Start preparing now, folks. The amount of news coverage will be INSANE.

* Here's a little piece on small budget films.

Timing is critical for small films to make it big at the box office. All the budget films that succeeded this year ensured their release didn’t clash with any big banner film. There have been some notable mistakes as well: Hema Malini’s home production Tell Me O Kkhuda released alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One during Diwali last year and, perhaps not surprisingly, sank without a trace. Abraham says the decision to release Vicky Donor during the IPL was planned deliberately. Perhaps drawing on his years of being a media planner before he turned to Bollywood, he says, “There is fatigue regarding cricket.” Besides, other film-makers had decided against any big releases, leaving the field open.

* Two bit actress Laila Khan suspected of terrorism links.

Have a Rowdy Rathore CRAZE video!

And the trailer for Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi. Looks cute but definitely a DVD watch.

@Melanie Thanks!! :) I saw the trailer in the theater yesterday and it does look cute. Just not something that NEEDS to be seen in the theater but still cute. :)

Really happy to hear Asin will be on for Khiladi 786. They were cute in Housefull 2.

I think the Sonam-Kat comment was more a bad choice of words. Watching the interview I think she meant something more like a lack of self awareness so you can just go for the role.

Btw I heard Joker is getting pushed back to 2013?

I'll see Shirin Farhad in theaters, because I want to encourage more rom-coms about people who don't look like models.

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.

xoxo Filmi Girl
