Thursday Gossip!

Good morning!!!!! The rain has cleared away and it's a bright sunny day here in Washington, DC.

Yesterday I took the afternoon off of work to go out and see Ms. Daisy Rockwell talk about her new book called The Little Book of Terror, which features images and essays that pick apart our ideas about terrorism and the people who commit it. I got my copy yesterday and can't wait to dig in!

And now onto your filmi news!

* Here is something good to report - Hrithik Roshan has come out... in support of the gay community!

The actor insisted, “It’s taken us hundreds of years to evolve as a society and realise how ridiculous and preposterous discrimination against race/caste is. How many more years is it going to take us to be mature enough and learn to accept individual sexual inclination? Perhaps the starting point is to understand that homosexuality is NOT a matter of choice.”

(And another article.)

* The Mumbai Police have registered a complaint against Sanjay Gupta for using the police letterhead on his press invitation to the launch of Shootout at Wadala.

* Music directors are increasingly getting permission to remake Western songs but the real question is... why are they remaking Western songs? I think the world would have been just fine without that craptacular remake of "Stand By Me" from Ra.One.

* Anil Kapoor needs to get off the Hollywood train because he sounds like a tool.

Bollywood really needs to understand what will be accepted worldwide. The subject and the script should be original, yet very relatable for people to accept it worldwide. A lot of research is needed as far as the content is concerned.

Right... and why should Bollywood CARE about what will be accepted worldwide? And more importantly, won't changing Bollywood risk alienating the people who love Bollywood as it is?

* One of the markets Bollywood already has tied-up is The Middle East.

According to [Kunal] Kohli, a third of any big budget Bollywood film’s total box office collections are garnered from overseas earnings, with the Middle East region accounting for 20 to 25 per cent of that.

* Interview with Manish Malhotra, who is in Qatar!

Who represents true elegance to you?

MM: I think any person, man or woman, internationally, or within India, who knows themselves. Someone who is truly honest to themselves. I think that is not only in the way they deal with things or the way they are but it's also in their carriage. The confidence.

* Maryam signs on ANOTHER Bollywood film - Rowdy Rathore!!

* This isn't news but it made me happy - Bobby Darling smooching on Veena Malik.

* Meera is accused of swindling money from her fiancee. The wedding is called off.

* Oh, come on, Bollywood press!!! I'm not the biggest supporter of Fardeen "Drugs" Khan but the guy just had a death in the family and won an 11 year battle against a drugs charge and your reaction is to chide him about his weight?

Fardeen also gets ready to face the camera this year for the sequel to Anees Bazmi's 'No Entry' where he has a double role. He is aware he needs to lose weight. "I am not blind to the excess baggage that I'm carrying around. All that will soon have to go. I'm working on it. Yes, I've had problems. Who doesn't? The important thing is to cope with the problems to the best of one's ability."

This is too much!! What is this bizarre obsession with weight?

* Should we ask Sajid Khan, who "doesn't know" whether or not Asin has lost weight? I'm so glad Sajid "doesn't know" what his feet look like Khan is tracking the weight of starlets. Because an extra ounce on a starlet would really affect the quality of Housefull 2.

* Ridiculous remake rumor time - Ankhen 2 starring Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor?

* Emraan Hashmi in Yash Raj Film?

* Maddy is not yet confirmed for the Vettai remake... now that I think about it, I wonder if he's still having trouble with his knees. He might not be able to do all the dishoom. ALSO, I kind of need to own Vettai on DVD.

* Sallu turns down the Arya 2 remake.

* Prithviraj is having some trouble with Hindi.

* Heyyyy! It's Makrand Deshpande! And he's doing an interview!

Do you think that your hairstyle has worked to your advantage or has it put some kind of restriction at times on the nature of your characters?

In fact, many have told me that I won't be able to get certain kind of characters with this style. But I think if we can change certain attitudes and play the characters, it could be far more interesting. My whole aim is to make different appearances and of course, I will definitely cut it some day (smiles).

(That's actually a pretty good question!)

* And a fluffy interview with Milan Luthria...

Inevitably, he grew up on Zanjeer, Don, Trishul, Deewaar and Sholay, which were a “great blend of romance, humour, action and one-liners”. He never had any doubts of what kind of cinema he would champion when he became a filmmaker. “The decade in which you are raised defines your taste. From the age of 10 to 17, for me, that was the late 1970s. This was a time when not only Mr Bachchan but Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna and Rishi Kapoor were firing on all cylinders. The filmmakers of that time and their styles left an impression on me, just the same way as Sooraj Barjatya, Aditya Chopra or Karan Johar must have on some of the younger filmmakers working today.”

Cute new Ranbir Kapoor Pepsi commercial!

Hey FG,

Thanks for the reco yesterday about "Saheb Biwi aur Gangster". I watched it last night and it was awesome.

I once got a chance to meet Randeep Hooda a few years back in Mumbai and have always felt that he should have become a bigger star than what he is......

That day, even without makeup and stuff, he looked like a star with those striking features....

Thanks for reco once again!
