Friday Gossip!

Okay, who is going to see Jodi Breakers this weekend!! I'm looking forward to it - it seems much more my type of film than Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Possibly because I have zero sympathy for man-boys who throw temper tantrums at their daddies even when they are 30 years old.

And now onto gossip! Who said something stupid? Who is in trouble with the law? And whose story on who threw the first punch in a recent brawl is looking less and less truthful?!

* The police say the case against
Saif Ali Khan is strong.

"We have questioned eyewitnesses, including the hotel staff and management. Their statements have corroborated Sharma's version. This is a simple case so far and we will file a chargesheet very soon," said a senior officer involved in the probe.

To add insult to injury, Iqbal Sharma says he didn't recognize Saif Ali Khan at all.

"I genuinely did not know," Sharma, who was formerly the Deputy Director General of South Africa’s department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and CEO of Trade & Investment South Africa (TISA), said. He presently serves on the board of Transnet as a non-executive director.

* Zarine Khan called a halt to her performance at a recent event when the crowd got rowdy and started throwing money at her. Apparently, the event management company called the police on her, saying she should return the money because she hadn't finished her performance but Zarine says they should have stepped in to control the crowd.

I'm on Team Zarine on this one. If she feared for her safety, the event management company should have stepped in to have the troublemakers escorted out so she could perform.

* Shruti Haasan is just like Hollywood... in that she claims her nose job was for a deviated septum.

* Subhash Ghai is in more hot water over some land purchased in Jhajjar. Seriously, he should just retire.

The petitioners have claimed that the land belongs to the village communities and the gram panchayat and government had no right to sell it to private firms. They also claimed that Ghai had benefited because of the "illegal" land deal with the government.

* Another starlet tries her luck on the bikini babe circuit.

We are said that Nila aka Meera Chopra, a talented actress who is a popular face in Tamil and Telugu industries, will make her B-town debut in 'Bhaiyyaji Superhit'. The multi-starrer film to be directed by 'Right Yaaa Wrong' helmer Neeraj Pathak said to include Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Preity Zinta and Ameesha Patel among others.

Poor Nila... if she thinks Ameesha Patel and Preity Zinta will give her room to shine, she is mistaken.

* This is why certain celebrities shouldn't have access to twitter:

"Being a grown up sucks! Too much responsibility...when I was a kid I couldn't wait to be big and independent, but now...wish I was back in school," Piggy Chops posted on Twitter.

No 29-year old woman who wants to be taken seriously should be going around publicly saying that "being a grown-up sucks." Can you imagine Vidya Balan saying something like that? Or Katrina or Kareena or Anushka or even Sonam or DEEPIKA? PC sounds like a spoiled teenager.

And how about a "grown-up" decision for Priyanka to stop endorsing skin whitening creams.

And, as long as we're talking about twitter. I caught Shirish Kunder saying this yesterday:

There are Doers and there are Watchers. Watchers talk about Doers on twitter.

REALLY, bro? Really? You are going to go there? Because let me tell you that as a filmmaker attempting to make commercial cinema, you really should be concerned about "watchers." Here is a tip from me - not everybody is a "doer" in every part of their lives. Do you cook your own meals? Probably not but I suspect you have plenty of opinions on what is good or not. Do I make my own films? No, but does that mean I can't talk about films put out for public consumption?

Besides, if EVERYBODY was a "doer" of art, who would be left to appreciate the art we all created? The world NEEDS watchers. To paraphrase the excellent book on gossip I'm reading at the moment, a good joke (or film) needs three people - one to create it, one to appreciate it, and one who doesn't get it.

So, Shirish, think about that the next time you want to bitch about "watchers."

* Ram Gopal Varma to direct the Hindi version of Mahesh Babu's Businessman?

* What happened to Bollywood's animal friends?

Just about every hero worth their salt has pranced around with an animal or two in the name of art. In 1976 when their reel and real romance was peaking Dharmendra chose to chase a baby elephant instead of cavorting longer with Hema Malini in Maa. Jeetendra took it a step further and decided to play a snake in Naagin (1976). Even Amitabh Bachchan's Iqbal grew up with an eagle for a best friend in Coolie (1983).

* Syed M Ashraf's "The Beast" is to be adapted into a feature film by Peepli Live director Anusha Rizvi’s younger brother, Ahmed Afzal.

Read a little about the book here.

* Who let Zayed Khan talk? And, more importantly, why bother to publish it? He claims that Tezz will be different from his last round of flop films.

Adds Zayed who has worked with Priyan for the first time, "Coming from Sir, I know for sure that TEZZ would be a fresh take on action for all involved. I have worked in action films like BLUE, DUS and CASH in the past but this one is indeed different."

For everybody's sake... we hope so.

* Prateik Babbar blames Sanjay Leela Bhansali for My Friend Pinto flopping... even though SLB was just the producer.

* Prateik's Pinto co-star doesn't seem to be having any difficulties... Kalki just signed a film opposite current It Boy Emraan Hashmi.

* Bittoo Boss to release April 13. This looks like it might be fun but it's by the same guys who made the misogynist Pyaar Ka Punchnama. If it's just raunchy fun, I can get behind that - if it's one of those movies where all women are bitches, I'm going to pass.

* The police catch Vidya Balan's stalker... because acting like an obsessed hero in real life is just downright creepy.

* And speaking of creepy, what is up with this? Whitebread "singer-songwriter" hires a Bangalore dance troupe to make a video for him? This just feels icky... like he's using them as props.

I hate Pyaar Ka Punchnama so much.

It seems like all the stars endorse lightening creams. It is sad. BTW, what is up with Bipasha in the Jodi Breakers promos she looks REALLY pale. She's the industry's resident "dark" actress but doesn't look it in that movie.
