Wednesday Gossip!

Today in gossip... me being snarky! It's not entirely my fault, though, since I was handed material by Abhi, Shahrukh, Saif...

* Everybody is excited about the restoration of Dilip Kumar's and the Kapoor family homes! Peshawar tourism say what?

* Oh, spare us, Abhi. Not all Bollywood films are remakes he says.

"We make close to a thousand movies a year. If five or six of those thousands are remakes of older films or films from a different language, suddenly we are being labeled with a trend," Bachchan said.

That is SUCH a deceptive statement. First of all, "Bollywood" makes nowhere close to a thousand movies a year and, secondly, I think if a large portion of the films that get media coverage (i.e. "Bollywood") are remakes or sequels, then it certainly should be labeled a trend. And coming from the guy who is starring in THE most unnecessary film of 2012 so far (remake of a remake of The Italian Job, also starring star child charity cases Bobby Deol and Neil Nitin Mukesh), claiming originality is a bit much.

Don't forget that his biggest hit of the last couple years was a film that had no ties to other films and so REMADE a song from Hare Krishna Hare Ram... just because it's the trend now.

Why so defensive, Abhi? Just accept it and move on. Worrying about your image of "originality" while starring in Players is one of many reasons I find your public persona intolerable.

* In related news, Aishwarya Rai may be off maternity leave soon!

* And can somebody PLEASE cast Madhuri Dixit in something. Please.

* Another article trying to make Indian rock music happen. This one based in Bangalore.

"What we are trying to do is to have Indian rock like we have American rock, Brit rock," said Siddarth Abraham, Solder's vocalist, who looks the part with a shaved head, beard and arms laced with tattoos.

Look, journalists, I like rock music, too... but can we all accept that film music is what's mainstream and move on? If you can't play it at a club or a wedding, it's going to remain niche and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, there was just a piece in either New York or the New Yorker about how rock is now niche EVEN IN AMERICA because (and I repeat) if you can't play it in a club, it's not going to get a mainstream audience.

* Candid shot of lovely Karishma in her new film. I was unaware until now that this was going to be another one of those gimmicky FIVE STORIES SPANNING FIVE LIFETIMES movies. Can we just stop making those already? How about just making ONE good story with no narrative gimmicks?

* Skeletor Shahrukh Khan (seriously, check out the picture on this piece) is canceling a Dubai premiere for Don 2.

Unrelated, Mr. Publicity has had a public indecency case filed against him in Kerala for dancing to "Chamak Challo" with some scantily clad "artistes." No word on whether the artistes were male or female.

* Shirish Kunder, perhaps having learned a valuable lesson about what not to do from working with Akshay's on Tees Maar Khan, is not going to be going into marketing hyperdrive with Joker.

The Bollywood director added, "When we start marketing the film, it will not be a PR thing, we will highlight plus points. I do not believe in giving interviews, talking about personal life. I don't want people to watch film because of anyone's personal life. Like how Aamir markets the film, its plus points, good things, something like that.”

* Fact: Bappi Lahiri is boss.

"I always study the young generation a lot and my songs are never old," said Lahiri.

I love this guy!

* I think at this point, Saif has spent more time filming for Agent Vinod than he did in recovery from his "work." (How long was he wearing that bandana?) Wedding delayed for more filming.

* Suriya to host Kaun Banega Crorepati in Tamil!

* No 3D Sholay and thank god.

Copy pasting from the article Abhi said

"Indian cinema is not all about copying other earlier projects."

And copy pasting fr
"First of all, "Bollywood" makes nowhere close to a thousand movies a year and,om your thoughts"

Now Abhi didn't say Bollywood did he? He said "Indian". I assume that includes films from all states. And also Abhi is a film producer too you know so it is possible to read what he said from a point of a producer and lastly Abhi is possibly the actor with the least amount of complexes in Indian entertainment and I don't think he was being defensive.

LOL @ star child charity cases

On the other hand as much as I love SRK, I have to agree on the "skeletor" comment in regards to the pic. Too much smoking and not enough food will do that to you I suppose.

Here is the whole quote from the paragraph:

"that Indian cinema is not all about copying other earlier projects.

"We make close to a thousand movies a year. If five or six of those thousands are remakes of older films or films from a different language, suddenly we are being labeled with a trend," Bachchan said."

@eliza Thank you for correcting me!! I'm so embarrassed that I did that thing that I hate - conflating "Indian" cinema with "Bollywood."

I still question his statement but that does put a much different spin on it. How does a film like Players fit into the general category of Indian cinema... I don't know...

Oh, Shahrukh - what have you done to yourself?

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
