One of the coolest things that has resulted from the Salman Khan resurgence in Bollywood is the craze of SALLU CRAZE videos sweeping youtube. These are videos that fans have taken of audiences watching Salman movies in packed theaters and then have uploaded onto youtube with THOUSANDS of views! It's incredible!

It also shows what a communal experience watching a film can be... And you can even see the glows from other cell phones capturing video of the experience in some of these videos.

The enthusiasm is so catching that if you don't get pumped watching these clips, I'm afraid there is no masala in your soul.

A fight scene from Wanted (2009)

"Munni Badnaam" from Dabangg (2010)

Salman's entrance in Bodyguard (2011)

Check out how Salman looks like he's talking to the people in the front rows when he leans down like that. The experience of seeing him come from up above from the floor of a theater CANNOT be duplicated on DVD... or in stadium seating.

Of course, cheering for your favorite hero is nothing new... crowds have always done that. It's just really cool that the SALLU CRAZE has inspired all these videos of people so THRILLED to be seeing Salman that they have to share it with the world.

The only other ones that I've found on the same level of magnitude as the SALLU CRAZE are the Chiranjeevi entrance scene videos from screenings of Magadheera and... S... U.... P... E... R... SUPERSTAR RAJINIKANTH crowd noise for Endhiran! Check these out from theaters in in Singapore and the United States and offering aarthi to Rajini in the US plus AMAZING HIGH ENERGY from the floor of theater in Chennai.

If anybody wants to share their favorites - I'm sure JR NTR has some great entrances - please do share them in the comments!

I'm glad you discovered these videos, FG! They're totally fun to watch.

I actually witnessed the Chiranjeevi reaction in Magadheera in a theater in the U.S. It was completely amazing.

My first such experience was for a Salman film, Yuvvraaj, in a multiplex in India. Usually people say these kinds of reactions only occur in single screens, so I was very surprised to see it happen in a multiplex, and for such a film, too. (i.e., not really a masala film)

You're bang on about film viewing being a communal experience in India (in the American meaning of that word, not the Indian!) Note how most of the audience is a repeat one -- they are saying the dialogs before the actor actually says them! This is most obvious in the Dabangg video. The audience completes that "ched" line before Salman actually says it, as well as the "Bhayyaji, smile!" line. And when Salman was miming the animals, and asking, "Which animal is it that does this?" acting like a dog, did you hear one guy in the audience yell out, "Kutta!" before Salman's sidekick in the film did? This kind of anticipation of dialog can get very annoying if you yourself haven't yet seen the film! (And I've had to suffer through that experience, too.)

@moimeme WOW I didn't notice that about the dialogues in Dabangg. That is a great observation and adds another twist to the videos, in that somebody knew a great scene was coming up and GRABS THEIR PHONE to capture the fun!

Another bit I loved was when Salman says a dialogue about "tareekh" (about how as long as this bag keeps coming back with money he will keep postponing the date for bringing down Chedi Singh) some guy in the cinema hall started to repeat Sunny Deol's famous "taareekh pe taareekh, taareekh pe taareekh" line from Damini

Fun post FG! I absolutely love the single screen audience ka enthusiasm :)

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
