Wednesday Gossip!

Today! Check out the promo to Hrithik's new TV show, find out who is playing Madhubala in the new Kishore Kumar biopic, read about Aazaan (what's that?!), Shahrukh is dancing South Indian style in Ra.1, and MORE!

* Read a fascinating piece on English and
Hindi films.

Over the past decade, people like Singh and Moitra—people whose primary language is English—have come to form a larger proportion of the Hindi film industry than ever before. In the changing demographic of Hindi cinema, not just of actors and art directors, but even directors and scriptwriters are people much more comfortable in English than in Hindi. What does it mean, one wonders, for most films to be made in a language that no longer comes easily to their creators? What does it mean for Hindi cinema if most films under that rubric are now in fact conceived, thrashed out and largely executed not in Hindi but in English?

* Kangana is playing Madhubala in Anurag Basu's
Kishore Kumar biopic!

* Who is going to play
Rekha in the Rekha biopic?

* Check out some shooting stills from Salman Khan's

* I've heard almost nothing about
Aazaan, which debuted at Cannes, except for the constant press about former playboy bunny Candace Boucher. Oh, wait... that's because the film is relaunching a flop son of a rich industry titan. I suppose if my daddy was going to buy me a film, I would want to star with a Playboy bunny, too...

Find out all about
other self-made films in this profile piece.

* Is Chitrangda going to be in
Race 2?

* The
Pink Chaddi Campaign is making its Bollywood debut!

* Read about the
Southern style number that's going to be featured in Ra.1.

The song features the lead pair, Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor dance on the beats of Bharatnatyam. And this is for the first time that international singer Akon will be singing in Hindi. Giving an insight about the track Ganesh says, “The name of the song is ‘Chamak Chalo’ and is sung in Hindi by Akon. The song will put on show the true chemistry between the couple, SRK and Kareena in the southern style. It is a specialised song and I have made it in a distinctive way. Only after you watch, will you be able to know the magnitude.”

So, this could be amazing or it could be embarrassing... one question, why is Akon singing this track? Actually, two questions, why is Akon singing this track IN HINDI?

* The item girl for
Delhi Belly still hasn't been cast... although Imran Khan wants Katrina!

* Anjana Sukhani is joining the cast of

Dance, Hrithik, dance! Check out the promo for his new TV show!

RE "Bharatnatyam" in Ra.1 -- Anyone who speaks of Bharatanatyam "beats", or thinks Bharatnatyam is "southern style" dance, doesn't know the first thing about what it is. And, with Akon singing in Hindi to a song incorporating some "southern beats" and performed by Kareena as well as SRK -- I think embarrassment is the only thing that can result. Or perhaps it will be amazingly embarrassing. :)

"why is Akon singing this track IN HINDI?"

Why not? Wasn't there a R&B singer who is not Indian and sang in Hindi in Delhi6 soundtrack. It was a slow, beautiful song and it worked very well.
I like Akon's voice and who knows, maybe he pulled it off.

As for the type of the dance I know practically nothing about Indian dances but I have eyes and can see that Kareena is not a good dancer. I hope that this dance will be good and the film will be a hit :)

Kangana as Madhubala is more drastic news as far as I'm concerned. I like to watch Kangana on screen but she is not a good actor, as opposed to Madhubala who actually was a very good actor (as for Kangana being as or even close to being as beautiful as Madhubala, I'm not going to go there since beauty is relative no?)
