Tuesday Gossip!

Good mornings!

Top story this day for Americans, Youtube is now starting
movie rentals! Check the list of Indian movies here! There are free films and ones for a very reasonable fee - they say these are all "Hindi" films but I see some South Indian ones mixed in, as well. I'm not sure what the subtitle situation is but I checked a couple and it looks like at least a few DO have them.

Also, for friends in Singapore, UAE, and Indonesia, Zee Cinema is going to start
subtitling in English!

Spats, Shahrukh, Hrithik, and plenty of Ekta Kapoor under the cut! Also, I ask you... does Karan Johar even like films?

* Shahrukh Khan announces that upcoming Salman Khan starrer

Ek Tha Tiger was offered to him first, which would explain the Kat-SRK rumor going around earlier but is still kind of a douche move on Shahrukh's part.

* Ekta Kapoor is running into trouble with the real Ragini MMS, a girl named
Deepika. Apparently, Deepika wants to see the film before it's released but Ekta is refusing. This is a tricky situation because I'm sure Ragini MMS is highly fictionalized but it still has that "real life" inspiration that could affect this girl...

* Anurag Kashyap says
Bollywood wastes too much money and I'm sure he's right. How else do you explain a film like No Problem?

Advertising on autorickshaws is a great cost saving measure... so Anurag should approve of Ekta's use of the medium to promote Ragini MMS.

* Ekta must also be pleased about the relative success of
Haunted, which means audiences have an appetite for ghost-sex stories... at least I think that is what Ragini MMS is about. If somebody wants to correct me, please feel free!

(Also Vikram Bhatt is making his
next two films in 3D.)

Aamir Khan personally called Ekta to ask her to attach the trailer for
Delhi Belly to Ragini MMS.

* Karan Johar needs to be stopped!!! Can we agree on that? Apparently because Hrithik is playing a gangster in
Agneepath, KJo has insisted that Hrithik dance poorly.

A reliable source from the crew says that Hrithik won't be seen dancing in the film simply because it doesn't go with his character which is that of a gangster. "Yes, Hrithik won't be showing off his dancing skills in the film because it doesn't suit his role. But he has done a few steps in one of the songs shot recently. He was given a brief that he has to forget his dance skills and dance like a total novice."

Are you freaking kidding me?! Sanjay Leela Bansali managed to squeeze in some Hrithik dance moves in
Guzarish and he was playing a paraplegic! In what universe do filmi gangsters not know how to dance? The only explanation for this is that KJo is trying to make a film "LIKE HOLLYWOOD" and for him that means no song-dance. Ugh.

Does Karan Johar even like films?

* Somebody who does like films - Aamir Khan - is looking for the right lady for an item song for
Delhi Belly! See, KJo, THIS is how you do it... of the two of you, whose film made it to the Oscars. Hmm... song-dance filled Lagaan or JUST LIKE HOLLYWOOD My Name is Khan? Why don't you Google it.

* Another guy who is losing the plot... Mani Ratnam. Thankfully, he has canceled the
epic failure film that was going to star Priyanka Chopra as an inauthentic and highly make-up'ed South Indian princess.

* Check out some images from Ranbir Kapoor's
item song for kiddie film Chillar Party.

* This is a bitchy
she said-she said article but the picture of Kangs and Mallika is TOO CUTE!

* Gosh, why would Kangana think people are spreading
nasty stories about her?

* Shahid is asking Ajay Devgn to move the date of
Singam because it's clashing with Mausam... and we all know which is the stronger contender in that contest.

* Clearly the media is picking up on Louella's
Blogue and have run with the idea. Find out about the ladies who run Highheel Confidential!

* EEEE! Rani Mukerji is going to
Cannes! Now I wish I had accepted that invite from the Indian pavilion.

* And an interesting article on some of Indian TV's
child actors. Who knows... you may be seeing them in films in a few years.

Interesting articles but ugh the writing in some of these showbiz articles is just embarassing and painful to read. I loved the article on child stars. Ashnoor and Ulka are my favourites.

"Talking about this incident, Salman says, “I had refused Baazigar. When Abbas-Mustan came to me with the script, I asked my dad for his inputs. He felt that since it’s a story of a negative character they should add an angle of the mother in it. They didn’t agree. When I turned down the film, they went to Shah Rukh and then they added the mother angle! But I don’t regret it at all.” Finsihing of this comment, Salman added, “If I had done Baazigar then there would be no Mannat standing in Bandstand today,” referring to Shah Rukh Khan’s house."

Hi Filmigirl,
Though I am glad that Priyanka is'nt playing the part, I am very disappointed that Mani's Ponniyin selvan movie will never be made especially since the rest of the cast was shaping up so nicely. Just out of curiousity, why do you dislike Priyanka? I myself am indifferent to her though I havent seen her in a lot of movies and disliked her in fashion.

Filmi Girl said...

@S It's so true... they don't care about writing, just spinning out nonsense.

@Pardesi I take your point. :) Still, in the light of OSO v Saawariya, Salman could have been a lot nastier. In context, the quote isn't that bad. SRK's comment just sounds like he is on the defense and lashing out at Salman.

@The Bolly 'Hood AMEN!

@Divya I dislike Priyanka for a number of reasons but the top one is that she often turns in mediocre performances that are praised to no end. This means she gets cast in films that I want to see (like Krrish) and really drags them down.

I also really dislike the way her "movie star" look distracts in more realistic films. She is way too thin and wears too much make-up to play a regular girl.

Honestly, I would have no problem with PC if she was just a ditzy girlfriend in things like Dostana but she is so often given roles she can't handle and it's frustrating to watch.

Salman said - but for him SRK would be homeless. I doubt that anything said on the other side was as nasty.

Filmi Girl said...

@Neelima Oh, wow! That's not how I read it at all - to me it sounded more like Salman was saying that isn't it funny how a single role he passed by could build a giant house like Mannat. :)

Neelima said...

It is all in the eye of the beholder! It seemed quite snarky and nasty to me. RE: OSO vs Saawariya wars, did SRK say anything nasty about Salman then? If so I missed it. Besides Saawariya was hardly Salman's film.

NaF said...

I guess it really is in the eyes of the beholder.

Salman sounded like he was reminiscing whereas SRK sounds like he was gloating, you know "King does this and King does that bla bla..."

There's a difference between talking about a film you rejected years after it released as opposed to declaring that you were the first choice fresh after the principle cast of a film is announced. That was an insecure move on SRK's part, i thought. I didn't detect anything nasty from Salman's part, and that article doesn't even have a source.

Here is a more detailed article abt what SRK said:

That said, I have absolutely no faith in Indian journalism, they probably phrased the words of both stars to make it sound more controversial than it's supposed to be.

Interesting point Salman made abt the mother's angle in Baazigar though. Even Aamir and Sunny Deol were peeved at Yash Raj because of Darr. Apparently they are not very honest to the actors about the films and their roles.

FilmiGirl, IMHO, even attempting to remake Agneepath is wrong on so many levels. Not to mention that KJo is at the helm - double blasphemy: the man's world view is so far removed from "gritty" it is not funny. Or that Hrithik is set to reprise AB's role - which is just plain crazy; looking at the current crop of actors, I cannot think of a single one capable of convincingly portraying a man whose "unending fury" (with apologies to Stephen King) simmers just beneath the surface and spills over ever so often in most violent forms. Maybe Ajay, though I remain doubtful.

Anyway, to your point re dancing, you have to keep in mind that the protagonist being a gangster is secondary - he is, having lived through an extremely traumatic childhood, "damaged goods" first and foremost. Men like that don't dance - they're never at that much peace with themselves! Would you have expected Vijay in Deewar to shake a leg? If anything, IMO, Vijay in Agneepath was even angrier with the world and the monster that it had turned him into than Vijay in Deewar ever was. Anyhoo, just my $0.02.

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
