From dangerously sexy villain (you've seen Madhumati, right?) to sleaze ball villain to shades of gray character actor to comic character actor to kindly uncle... Pran has been around Bollywood for almost as long as there has been a Bollywood.
He's 93 today and I wish him good health and happy living for another year!
And on to the rest of today's news post!
Here's some potentially good news! Siddharth Malhotra has been signed by Karan Johar to star in a Remo D'Souza (ABCD) directed film that is "in the same genre" as Fast and Furious. Those movies are essentially Bollywood without songs anyways, so I am tentatively excited about this.
Insiders maintain that Karan wants the film to be made in a “stylish manner with a lot of snazzy cars and glamorous girls”. “The script has already been finalised. Both Karan and UTV are impressed with Remo’s writing because it has a lot of soul,” says a source.
I'm not sure how much Remo had to do with the script of F.A.L.T.U. but (minus damp squib Jackky Bhagnani) I quite enjoyed it and was pleased with the characterization and heart the film had.
Now, the only question is this - if this untitled Sid starrer is really "in the same genre" as Fast and Furious, the most important casting decision isn't the female lead but the bromantic Vin Diesel lead. Because obviously Sid is the Paul Walker in this equation.
Dream casting for a bad boy with a heart of gold? IT HAS TO BE VIDYUT JAMWAL! Or maybe Chandan Roy Sanyal?
Sid has two other projects coming up - a romantic one with Parineeti Chopra and a villain role (?!) for Ekta Kapoor.
Salman Khan says there are no plans to make a Dabangg 3. Thank. God.
Dabangg 2 was pointless.
Dostana 2 will hopefully be less so.
Trust in the Krish & DK and you will be rewarded.
Look, Agent Vinod, Smagent Sminod. Go Goa Gone has our Saifu going against his recent "young" "slick" avatar by playing a sleazy blonde hit man. (OR SOMETHING!) Filmi Girl likes. Filmi Girl likes this A LOT.
Badass gone slightly to seed is directly in Saifu's wheel house. Please let this film work. PLEASE let this film work and put an end to the MeteroSaifual we've been saddled with recently.
(People I don't trust: Imtiaz Ali. Yes, you are still being judged for Nargis. SHE IS ALL YOUR FAULT.)
Pakistan lifts the ban on youtube for Ali Zafar's film trailer.
Apparently the Pakistani Powers That Be will only listen to one thing: Ali Zafar. They've torn his poster out of the Urdu language Tiger Beat (Sher Beat?) and stuck it to the walls in the Parliament House where he smolders down at the Congressmen while they work.
Look, America, with your drone strikes and unilateral negotiating positions on the sanctity of Jewish theocracies, you aren't winning any friends in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Here's what you have to do: Make Ali Zafar an international cross over sensation.
If Pakistan will lift the youtube ban for merely the trailer of Chashme Buddoor, imagine what they would do if Ali Zafar starred in a buddy cop comedy with Chris Rock that had an underlying message of "Hey, America is a-okay! Sorry about that time we bombed your house. And family"?" IT WOULD HAVE TO SCREEN IN PAKISTAN!
Just a friendly tip from Filmi Girl.
I love horror movies but find most Hindi horror less than… horrific. But Aatma looks great! As does Bips! I'm going to keep an eye for this one - I love freaky religious shit and creepy-ass kids. (Check out the eyes on that girl!)
I'm really looking forward to Settai (trailer link) , the Tamil remake of Delhi Belly. For one thing it stars Arya and Santhanam instead of Imran Khan and one of the Roy Kapurs. (SCORE!)
The soundtrack is out. I think this might be my favorite track so far.
