Zee Cine Awards 2012

Oops! I had actually written this list of nominees up and forgotten to post it but now the winners have been announced, I'll just notate who won on the list!

And before you check out the winners - I think the ZEE CINE AWARDS owe Vidya Balan an apology for sticking Priyanka Chopra in a fat suit to make fun of Vidya's figure in The Dirty Picture. It was a shameful display and all parties involved should have known better.

Zee Cine Awards 2012

BEST FILM

Singham
Bodyguard
Don 2
Rockstar
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
*The Dirty Picture

[No surprises here; I think The Dirty Picture is going to sweep the awards shows!]

BEST ACTOR

Ajay Devgn for Singham
Ranbir Kapoor for Rockstar
Salman Khan for Bodyguard
Shahrukh Khan for Ra One
*Shahrukh Khan for Don 2
Hrithik Roshan for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

[This is such a ridiculous field. You can’t compare what Ranbir and Hrithik did with the herogiri of the Two Knas and the Devgn. It’s apples and oranges. But apparently, Zee Cine can compare them and picked Shahrukh Khan in Don 2 over everybody else. The only reasonable explanation is that the Zee Cine jury only saw two films this year - Don 2 and Ra.One.]

BEST ACTRESS

Kangna Ranaut for Tanu Weds Manu
Katrina Kaif for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Kareena Kapoor for Bodyguard
Priyanka Chopra for Saat Khoon Maaf
*Vidya Balan for The Dirty Picture

[Congratulations of Vidya! And finally a nod to Kangs wonderful performance in Tanu Weds Manu! It’s a telling thing when the field for Best Actress is stronger than Best Actor. Although, technically, I wouldn’t have put Kat in as a leading lady but she’s a heroine so there you go. She definitely deserves a nod, though.]

BEST DIRECTOR

*Imtiaz Ali for Rockstar
Milan Luthria for The Dirty Picture
Farhan Akhtar for Don 2
Rohit Shetty for Singham
Zoya Akhtar for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Siddique for Bodyguard

[No surprises here but I'm surprised at the nod to Imtiaz Ali because by all accounts one of the biggest problems with Rockstar was directly his fault - the casting of Nargis Fakhri.]

SA RE GA MA PA SONG OF THE YEAR

“Character Dheela” from Ready
“Oh La La” from The Dirty Picture
*“Chammak Challo” from Ra One
“Sadda Haq” from Rockstar
“Senorita” from Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara
“Char Bajh Gaye” from F.A.L.T.U

[What a weird selection of songs... I'm okay with "Chammak Challo" winning popular song, although obviously my choice is “CHAR BAJH GAYE!”]

MALE INTERNATIONAL ICON

Ranbir Kapoor
John Abraham
*Farhan Akhtar
Imran Khan
Akshay Kumar

[Okay... I don’t get it the selection criteria or the result.]

FEMALE INTERNATIONAL ICON

*Katrina Kaif
Sonam Kapoor
Kareena Kapoor
Anushka Sharma
Vidya Balan

[Oh ho ho! No Deepika Padukone?! Her stock is dropping like Bear Sterns. And what’s this with Anushka? Interesting... But Kat as winner - YES. She deserves this one.]

Best Supporting Actor: Farhan Akhtar for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Best Debut (Female): Parineeti Chopra for Ladies vs Ricky Bahl

Best Most Use of Media: RA.One

Best Most Marketed Film: RA.One

We've discussed our mutual fury over this Priyanka business. Whoever made the call on that should get a slap. It's an ugly thing they did there.

In fairness to Imtiaz Ali, ROCKSTAR has some absolutely astonishingly good direction. What sinks it in the end is the script, but there are sequences in it as dazzlingly assembled as anything out of Bollywood in years.

And...well...Ra.One had really fucking good action.

I am so glad someone shares my outrage. I mean, I do want to watch the show before coming to a conclusion, but I don't think she would have put on a fat suit to do a tribute to Hema Malini or Sridevi. Also, I don't see SRK with a paunch in the picture. The joke seems to have been squarely aimed at Vidya, who was by NO means fat in the "Ooh La La" song sequence that they seem to be parodying. And whatever size she may have been, for an actress to be publicly making fun of another actress's body is unseemly. I almost want to accuse Priyanka of sour grapes, but I am hoping she has more sense than that.

You've got the Zee Cine Awards backwards. The popular awards that are the primary awards here and the jury awards are the ones being given out to the also-rans (read : to please the egos of the stars) When the Zee Awards were launched a few years ago their USP was that they were voted for by the people while the rest were decided by a jury, often prone to tampering.
Also, the nominees that you have listed under the jury awards are the ones for the popular category and they've been publicized on TV for a while inviting votes. In fact, there have been no nominees announced for the jury category as far as I remember.

In this case, the audience seems to have gotten the awards just right, unlike the previously relatively respectable Screen Awards, which has a rather 'persuadable' jury to decide the awards. Maybe there is some hope for the Indian democracy after all.

Just clarifying this because your outrage is misplaced here, and there are a lot of legitimate things to be outraged about in this industry. Better spend it wisely.

@Shama Thanks for the clarification! As you can tell, I don't devote too much brain power to various awards ceremonies. XD

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
