Filmfare Awards 2012!

Thanks to everybody who sent in their guesses! I'll be contacting the winner.

Before we get down to business, Filmi Girl has gone on record before as saying that she thinks it is a real shame that the Best Villain and Best Comedian categories have been eliminated. If she had her way, they would be inserted back and the pointless "Critics" choice would be struck from the record instead.

Alas, Filmi Girl does not run the Filmfare Awards. If she did, these would be her choices this year:

Best Villain: Vidyut Jamwal for Force
Best Comedian: Pitobash for Shor in the City

Now, on with the show!

57th Filmfare Award Winners!

BEST FILM
Delhi Belly
Don 2
No One Killed Jessica
Rockstar
The Dirty Picture
*Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

[Well, that was unexpected. Still, I would have been happy with any of the choices except Don 2, which shouldn't even have been nominated.]

BEST DIRECTOR

Abhinay Deo for Delhi Belly
Farhan Akhtar for Don 2
Imtiaz Ali for Rockstar
Milan Luthria for The Dirty Picture
Raj Kumar Gupta for No One Killed Jessica
*Zoya Akhtar for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

[YES! I approve of this one so hard! Go Zoya! Go Zoya! I thought she did a fantastic job with ZNMD and look forward to her next.]

BEST ACTOR

Ajay Devgn for Singham
Amitabh Bachchan for Aarakshan
Hrithik Roshan for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
*Ranbir Kapoor for Rockstar
Salman Khan for Bodyguard
Shahrukh Khan for Don 2

[It was nice to see this go to somebody from the new generation. Ranbir Kapoor has his chips in place to make a nice career for himself as a leading man, like Hrithik has.]

BEST ACTRESS

Katrina Kaif for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan
Mahie Gill for Saheb Biwi aur Gangster
Priyanka Chopra for 7 Khoon Maaf
Vidya Balan for No One Killed Jessica
*Vidya Balan for The Dirty Picture

[Vidya Balan earned every one of these Best Actress trophies. She is a powerhouse.]

BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Abhay Deol for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
*Farhan Akhtar for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Naseeruddin Shah for The Dirty Picture
Pitobash Tripathy for Shor in the City
Vir Das for Delhi Belly

[I shouldn't be surprised at this but... really? Don't get me wrong, I think he did good work in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara but there were better performances out there this year.]

BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Juhi Chawla for I Am
Kalki Koechlin for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Parineeti Chopra for Ladies VS Ricky Bahl
*Rani Mukerji for No One Killed Jessica
Swara Bhaskar for Tanu Weds Manu

[I'm happy for Rani! Even if I might have picked a different actress, I'm hoping this signals her second innings in Bollywood and isn't a parting gift.]

BEST MUSIC DIRECTOR

*A.R. Rahman for Rockstar
Ram Sampat for Delhi Belly
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Sohail Sen for Mere Brother Kil Dulhan
Vishal-Shekhar for Ra.One

[No comment needed.]

Alyssa Mendoza for "Khwabon Ke Parindey" from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

*Rekha Bhardwaj and Usha Uthup for "Darling" from 7 Khoon Maaf
Shreya Ghoshal for "Teri Meri" from Bodyguard
Shreya Ghoshal for "Saibo" from Shor in the City

[REALLY? This one seems so random. Does this read "We Want Priyanka Chopra to Dance For Ratings" Award or what?]

THE OTHER AWARDS

DEBUTS!

Best Debut (Male): Vidyut Jhamwal for Force
Best Debut (Female): Parineeti Chopra for Ladies vs Ricky Bahl

Best Debut Director We Want To Be Cool But Can't Hat Tip DK Bose: Abhinay Deo for Delhi Belly

[Um... one of these three is not like the others. Really, people? Great job picking the first two but ABHINAY DEO?! DID YOU EVEN SEE GAME?! THAT SHIT BLEW SO HARD AND IT WAS HIS FAULT. I'm still not convinced that Deo was the driving force behind Delhi Belly. *cough Kiran Rao *cough*]

RD Burman Award for upcoming talent in field of music: Krsna for Tanu Weds Manu

[Can't type because I'm too busy dancing to "Sadi Gali."]

CRITICS CHOICE THE POINTLESS AWARDS

Best Film (Critics): Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Best Actor (Critics): Ranbir Kapoor for Rockstar

Best Actor Female (Critics)Award For Dancing At the 57th Filmfare Awards: Priyanka Chopra for 7 Khoon Maaf

[What was the point of this exercise? Shouldn't the critics be awarding films overlooked by the masses instead of mimicking their choices?]

WRITING AWARDS

Best Dialogue: Farhan Akthar for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara [BAGWATI FOREVER]

Best Screenplay Aamir Produced This: Akshat Verrma for Delhi Belly

Best Story: Sanjay Chauhan for I Am Kalam

TECHNICAL AWARDS

Best Production Design: Shashank Tere for Delhi Belly
Best Editing: Huzefa Lokhandwala for Delhi Belly
Best Cinematography: Carlos Catalan for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Best Background Score: Ranjit Barot for Shaitan
Best Sound Design: Nakul Kamte for Don 2

Best VFX: Red Chillies VFX for Ra.One
Best Action: Action Concepts for Don 2

[Shahrukh should be happy with these, right? Isn't what he kept saying was worthwhile about both films?]

Best Choreography: Bosco-Caesar for "Senorita" for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

[This seems random. There were NO OTHER DANCES in Bollywood this year or just none that the "jury" wanted to admit that they've seen. Hell, even "Bodyguard" would have been a better pick.]

Best Costume: Niharika Khan for The Dirty Picture

[And Filmi Girl's Award for Best Costume Wearing: Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture]

It's sort of funny to me that Krsna picked up an award for a film where the most memorable song wasn't even his, but them's the breaks I guess.

Super happy about Zoya's win, along with Vidya and Rani. You go girls!

I am kind of sad that the oldest nomination for best actress/supporting actress is Juhi Chawla. Hopefully that will change, there are some great actresses out there that just aren't getting roles because no one wants to write them. I know India is a young country, in terms of it's demographics, but I can't wait to see Sridevi, Karishma, Madhuri, etc etc working regularly again. So much talent going to waste! And yet we have to watch SRK continue to romance 20 somethings.

Priyanka winning anything over Vidya is ridiculous. Why is Bollywood trying so hard to convince us that she is a great actress? It really bugs me that Aishwarya, after a string of strong performances, still gets bashed for being a non-actor, while Priyanka is lauded for doing an iffy-to-okay job in an AWFUL fim (seriously, Fashion was gross.)

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
