Tuesday Gossip!

Aishwarya enters the hospital; Ranbir Kapoor talks Rockstar; Sonu Sood is OUT of Dabangg 2; and without seeing the film, I suspect Nargis's character in Rockstar was a Manic Pixie Dream Girl. (Please tell me I'm wrong...)

* Ranbir Kapoor has a good head on his shoulders.

Of late, every big film aims to enter the much talked about 100 cr club. Does this whole talk about aiming for the 100 cr club put pressure on you?

Not at all. I do want my movies to make that much of money but at the end of the day only mass-friendly films do that kind of business. I would be happy if Rockstar reaches close to that figure but it doesn't put any pressure on me. I am not trying to compete with anyone except myself. I am fully aware of the choices I make and just to reach a certain number I don't think I'd like to change the kind of movies I want to do.

* Dibakar Bannerjee is another one of these filmmakers who fundamentally misunderstands how Bollywood heroes relate to their audience. I also question why he is using Hollywood as a model for providing "quality content" and escapism when the South Indian industries - especially the Tamil industry - seem to be doing it really well.

Accomplished film industries elsewhere, including Hollywood, make films that slake our thirst for glamour, superhero myths and escapism but also films that mirror society and grapple with complex issues. A fair amount have big stars and do well, if not spectacularly, at the box-office. Bollywood needs to increase its quota of films that successfully question who we are as a society, while not giving up on its role as the prime mass entertainer.

Um... I can tell you right now that Hollywood releases very few films that mirror society and grapple with complex issues... very few.

* Is Anushka Sharma too loud?

* Veena Malik signs another film in Bollywood. Possibly opposite Arjun Baweja.

* Katrina Kaif is Chikni Chameli! And she lost out to Bebo for a role opposite SRK in a Rohit Shetty film... although depending on how Don 2 goes, one might say that is a good thing for Bebo.

* And Don 2 is in legal trouble.

* Hack director Kunal Kohli (he will forever carry that tag here after I suffered through Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic) new film with Priyanka and Shahid will also have another girl - Neha Sharma.

* Is the media boycotting Aishwarya going to the hospital to give birth or are they respecting the rules that the Bachchan family gave them?

* Catch up with Abhishek...

“It will be fun to shoot with Uday again. He is a childhood friend. Working together takes the relationship forward and when it comes to this franchise, we’re a little superstitious about it starting with ACP Jai Dixit and Ali Akbar Fateh Khan. They have become iconic characters. There will be no Dhoom without them,” asserts Abhishek.

* I know Kangana annoys a lot of people but I still love her inability to play the media game. Her wish for a superpower? To shut up gossips.

* Is the poster for Kaun Hai Waha sacreligious?

* Akshay Kumar on how all actors are escorts and on the rumors of his feud with John Abraham.

And, he doesn’t shy from admitting that he has done it too. “I too have gone to a lot of places for entertainment, and done a lot of shows — even wedding shows. Everybody does it. In fact, all actors do.” He thinks no one should have a problem with that, though. “I don’t think there is anything wrong in it because for me that is entertainment, and entertaining the audience is our job.”

* Arbaaz Khan gets off on the wrong foot with Dabangg 2 and scraps Sonu Sood's role - which was supposed to be as his own twin brother - by claiming that he couldn't be the villain twice. Fair enough, Arbaaz, but why not have Sonu Sood as his own twin be the Hero's FRIEND and let them team up against Prakash Raaj? How awesome would that be?

Look, I'll be happy to script it for you if you need me to.

* Hema Malini tries to do damage control on Esha's non-existent career.

* Shammi Kapoor's daughter is planning a book on his life.

* The specter of Two States rises again. This time with Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali attached. Ugh. Chetan Bhagat is the worst.

* Obviously I haven't seen Rockstar yet but this story seemed kind of interesting. Apparently there is a scene where Ranbir sneaks Nargis into a blue film and the actress who stars in the film that sneak into see is outraged that it was portrayed as a blue film - because she says it wasn't.

PHEW. Does that all make sense?

Also, I know this information on the plot is completely out of context but the scene described makes me afraid that Nargis's character is going to be a Manic Pixie Dream Girl who may as well have been played by Zooey Deschannel...

Song trailer for Don 2 - looks pretty flash but DANG Lara Dutta has like no hips! I like item girls with a little more to shake...

Something more like this...

On the Nargis score: no, not a MPDG. I detest the archetype as much as you. In fact, she plays a character beaten down and ruined by social obligation. She has two brief segments where she works out some bucket list stuff that she's always wanted to do, but it's largely a tragic role.

It's also the most weakly written role in the film, but that's a discussion for another day. Where they go with her character is largely responsible for why the film doesn't entirely work.

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
