Tuesday Newsday!

Top story today:

Hard Kaur at the Indian Princess finale! Isn't she just the cutest?

* Everybody is stepping up to appreciate women... on just this one day of the year. The other 364 are for men.

Enjoy this half-baked list of
ladies who did non-heroine stuff in Bollywood.

Anjuli Shukla: The first woman camera person in India to win the National Film Award (Silver Lotus) for Best Cinematography. She won this award for her debut film, Kutty Srank (2010). Anjuli has also worked on films like Raavan (2010), Tahaan (2008), The Mistress of Spices (film) (2005) amongst others in the Camera and Electrical Department.

And another half-baked article on
women behind the camera.

While Sharmistha Roy has long ago proved her skill as an art director in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham..., and Kal Ho Naa Ho, among others, Saroj Khan and Farah Khan have established their command over choreography. Bhanu Athaiya's costumes in Gandhi fetched her an Oscar too in 1983 and National Awards for Lekin and Lagaan in 1991 and 2002 respectively. More recently, in 2010, Anjuli Shukla won the National Award for Best Cinematography for Kutty Srank and became the first Indian camerawoman to do so. Cut to Kolkata and the number of women in 'un-ladylike ' technical professions is still not flatteringly good.

You know, none of these articles ever mention
Kavitha Lankesh who directs Sandalwood films.

How about a ridiculous interview with
Sonam Kapoor to finish things off.

Like 7 Khoon Maaf, Aisha, Fashion — these kinds of movies are actually exceptions…?

You know contrary to popular beliefs and reports, Aisha did extremely well. For some strange reason everybody put it down. But the fact that it made Rs6 crore extra compared to a lot of other films shows that people want to see women playing central characters. Now it’s upto the men in the industry to deal with the level of conditioning and mind-set. Else Angelina Jolie would not have been an action hero. If all of us in India are excited about Lara Croft, why can’t we accept a Priyanka Chopra or Aishwarya Rai do something like that?

I'm not even going to bite on the "strange reason" everybody put it down.

* Apache Indian wants to go to
Bollywood!

* Katrina is doing an item song for
Joker!

Do you know what this means? Katrina Kaif in 3D...

*
Soha Ali Khan talks about her new film - Chemistry.

*
Always Kabhi Kabhi debutante Zoa Morani has filmi ties to Shahrukh.

* If British actress Sofia Hayat is looking to win friends and influence people, she is going about it
the wrong way.

"People say Slumdog Millionaire put India on the global map. Sorry, it's Danny Boyle who put India on the global map. He is a British guy. You can have millions of films like Slumdog Millionaire if producers and directors put that level of professionalism to the table," added the actress.

Right. If Sofia would check her notes, she would see that
Slumdog actually did pretty rubbish business in India - why would they want more film like that?

The whole article is pretty ridiculous. I'm not sure if she believes what she is saying or just spouting off to make it to the gossip newscycle.

* Deepika's
Dum Maro Dum song is launching during the India v. South Africa match. She's not performing live.

* The shooting of
Barfee has been delayed so Priyanka can work on her character. I just hope they work on her make-up. I would find PC a lot more believable in these "realistic" roles if she didn't trowel on the foundation.

* Wow! Two days in a row I've mentioned
Pradhuman Singh! Click the link for a peek at his look for his new film.

* And Vidya Balan is doing a cameo in
Thank You.

Vidya doing a cameo in 'Thank You" - it looks awful - sleazy, tacky and classless. I was wondering what Irrfan was doing in it and now Vidya too? Must need the money, I guess.

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
