I have one word for you today: VACATION!
As in, I am on vacation until next week!
Now, shall we see what is popping in Bollywood gossip?
* Will Tees Maar Khan save Bollywood for 2010?
“The mood of the industry is dull especially because movies by directors such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowarikar and Vipul Shah have failed at the box office,” said [Taran] Adarsh. “Nothing has worked at the box office since October. That’s why everyone is watching Tees Maar Khan closely.”
* Because 2010 was bad for business.
Some of the major disappointments of the year came from top stars and directors. Much anticipated films like Mani Ratnam's grand cinematic effort Raavan, Ashutosh Gowariker's freedom saga Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se and Hrithik Roshan and Mexican stunner Barbara Mori's Kites failed to take flight despite the hype surrounding them.
Apart from these movies, other biggies like Salman Khan's Veer and Akshay Kumar-Aishwarya Rai starrer Action Replayy, Akshay's 'Khatta-Meetha' also flopped.
* The president of Russia is visiting Yash Raj studios to honor an old cultural exchange!
It was the height of the Cold War and Hollywood films were still off limits in Russia. Stalin had just passed away and the newly-appointed Nikita Khruschev was looking for ways to allow Russians more than Communist propaganda. The answer, part of a cultural period known as “Khruschev’s Thaw” — which began following Stalin’s death in 1953 — was to let in Bollywood films.
And, at least according to a Russian friend of mine, people still watch Bollywood in Russia.
* The stars went deglam in 2010 - not that it helped at the box office.
Vidya Balan oozed sensuality in her bold village girl avatar in Vishal Bharadwaj's Ishqiya. Aishwarya Rai too sported a no-make up look for Mani Ratnam's Raavan. Minissha Lamba went plain for her role in Shyam Benegal's National Award-winning film Well Done Abba. Deepika Padukone's plain appearance in Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey has already become a rage.
Really? Maybe it became a rage among a handful of critics who love anything Bachchan but are people really lining up to get a pigtails and center part look?
* Sometimes C-list films give the best gossip, like that movie based on the Shiney Ahuja story. This time somebody with more money than sense has hired a playboy bunny to spice up his film.
* AISHWARYA IS GOING TO HAVE A BABY... say numerologists. My sister has to watch AVS as part of her job and she'll call me all annoyed when the numerologist comes on because he has this greenscreen numbers background.
I've been following Bollywood gossip for years and it still amuses me how superstitious celebrities are.
* Welll, this was unexpected - Kangana out and Vidya in for Balaji's Ragini MMS. Ekta Kapoor is slowly but surely making a name for herself.
* Ranbir Kapoor was almost chosen for The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
Reveals Mira for the first time, "I did a beautiful audition with Ranbir. Some years ago an audition for Bollywood stars was unheard of. But Ranbir did an excellent full-hearted audition with me. I've great love for the guy. He auditioned for two hours and I was deeply affected by his performance."
* Ranveer Singh talks Anushka Sharma.
"We came from two different schools of filmmaking. I'm a trained actor. She never attended any acting school. As a model she had faced the camera before acting and had already done two films before 'Band Baaja Baaraat'. She is a one-take actor. I believe in lots of rehearsals. And that was very annoying for Anushka because her first take was the best. We had to reach a middleground before we could get along."
* Germany loves Shahrukh Khan!
The local market for Bollywood film is flourishing: in the last five to 10 years, more and more Indian films were released on DVDs. They are shown on TV and Bollywood blockbuster premieres at the Berlin International Film Festivals. There are Bollywood parties, magazines, dance classes, film festivals and fan clubs. And when Shahrukh Khan comes to Berlin, for film premieres or, as recently, for shooting, fans wait for him at the airport, scream at the red carpet and camp in front of the hotel.
However, Bollywood films hardly make it into cinema for regular releases. It will be different with “Don 2” which is expected to be released in German cinemas, not least because the project was partially initiated and funded by Berlin’s city marketing and film funding agencies.
* Shahrukh Khan does not love Twitter... recently.
"Shah Rukh had been receiving a lot of negative comments lately. He was upset and hurt as a result. And that is why he has withdrawn. He preferred to lie low instead of hitting back through the micro blogging site."
We call this: being butthurt.
* Preity Zinta doesn't want to be called bubbly.
"I have been called bubbly from the time I stepped into Bollywood. It’s high time people look beyond that one facet of my personality. Like the choice of my films, I am also multi-dimensional. No one wants to have one dimension to their personality so why me? Today even movies are being made in three dimensional format! It was okay to call me bubbly when I was 19 but now I have many more emotions like calm, furious, intense, happy and angry."
Once again... we call this: being butthurt.
Look, Preity, I understand your frustration but yelling at journalists about it will only get you mocked in the press and that 'bubbly' will turn to 'bitchy' pretty quick. SHOW don't tell.
* Let me round today out with a couple of Priyanka Chopra was a bitch on Koffee With Karan tidbits!
She doesn't care about Salman Khan.
When Karan asked as how the strained relations with Sallu affect her, she said, “Frankly speaking, I don’t know the reason that miffed Salman. And I really don’t bother, because even though I have tried to clear the air a couple of times, he has never really come forward to do the same.”
She overplayed the shy act when Shahrukh was brought up.
The normally intelligent and witty Chopra failed to impress this week on KWK. Many were plain sickened with her nonstop gushing and “sharmaofying” at the very mention of Shah Rukh Khan’s name. An actress was heard saying, "PC is clearly stuck in the Meena Kumari era. Someone please teach her how to blush. That coy act of hers -- covering her face and lowering her eyes -- was just so fake."
Katrina Kaif on Bigg Boss!
Note from Filmi Girl:
I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.
If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
