Saturday Gossip!

Happy Weekend, everybody! It's finally Saturday!

Now, let's see what is happening around Tinsel Town...
Hisss has been panned by everybody except me; Jhootha Hi Sahi has been panned by everybody who doesn't enjoy crappy romantic-comedies; and I haven't read any reviews of RC yet because I want to try and get to a show later today.

And can I also say that the trailer for
Guzaarish screened before Hisss and it gave me chills to see Hrithik... I cannot WAIT for that one!

* Enjoy a funny
look at past Nagin films.

But my personal favourite is Rajkumar Kohli's 1976 multi-starrer Nagin, which begins with Jeetendra dressed in a short skirt - a piece of attire that was arguably even more radical for its time than Ms Sherawat's birthday suit is today.

Kohli was a master at the lost art of gathering middle-aged former stars together and giving them the money that might otherwise have been wasted on a script. In this underground classic, two snake lovers turn into Jeetendra and Reena Roy whenever they wish to sing Laxmikant-Pyarelal songs.

The man-snake is cruelly shot down by a group of friends (they probably figured he was just a regular snake in a mini-skirt), so his bereaved spouse goes on the revenge-trail. This means finding new and innovative ways to dispose of each culprit, but the hardest task is that she occasionally has to disguise herself as her victims' girlfriends which means simulating the facial expressions of Rekha, Mumtaz and Sulakshana Pandit. Would you wish such a fate on a girl?

On the upside, she gets to try out a variety of 1970s cocktail gowns.

Outlook has a great issue up on the state of the media - including this piece on the media in film.

While the news media has been dumbing down, embracing trivialisation with a vengeance, Bollywood, the erstwhile factory for assembly line potboilers, has thrown off its straitjacket and grown a conscience. The masala film may still be its forte but a youthful, sophisticated breed of filmmakers riding the multiplex wave is tackling a range of contemporary concerns as well: dyslexia, exploitation, organised crime and youthful angst—serious subjects that once would have been the preserve of the sensitive, investigative journalist but which today find little more than superficial expression in the news media. And what’s more—here’s the really ironic part—Bollywood, from its new, high-minded perch, is taking the news media to task.

* Of course, RGV can't have a single film release without
controversy.

* Juhi Chawla refuses to shoot with
Shiney Ahuja. And I don't blame her.

* Trisha is in
damage control mode over her failed attempt to break into Bollywood - and perhaps her associations with the drug ring that was busted up.

*
Endhiran dishooms the box office record of 3 Idiots.

* Are Sonam and Deepika now
BFF? They are going to be on Koffee with Karan together, which could be really fun to watch!

* Farah Khan's son Czar took a shine to
Miss Kat!

* Aamir Khan is ready to sign his
next film!

* Shahid Kapoor will be shooting in Pakistan for
Mira Nair! Very cool! She did great stuff with John Abraham in Water - I bet she gets a great performance out of Shahid. Kaminey is about to get surpassed!

* Is Jiah Khan going to embark on a
singing career?! (Let's ask her!)

ETA: The divine Miss J says that it is NOT true - no album plans yet.

Leaked song from
Golmaal 3! I can't WAIT for this movie!!

Noo Deepa Mehta made Water with John Abraham! Just a little typo memsaab!

I really wanna see the Deepika and Sonam episode, I'm hoping in a revealing world they'll be sharing stories of Ranbir and how they hate him now!

Note from Filmi Girl:

I love Bollywood - and all the ridiculous things that happen in Bollywood - but it doesn't mean that I can't occasionally make fun of various celebrities and films.

If you don't like my sense of humor, please just move on by - Trolls are not appreciated and nasty comments will be deleted.
